An unplanned vacation
« on: February 09, 2016, 03:53:45 PM »

Happy New Year!

I joined from FFF just after I discovered the new site. It was great and I was looking forward to a new beginning right up until I had another stroke a month before Christmas. The good news is I survived - again and the doc says I will most likely recover my sight and plan on shooting that Savage/Stevens Model 555 in .28GA! I bought it and didn't get to break it in.

They are truly a good bargain for us old fogies on limited incomes and I had a great time shooting doves with the .410 last fall. Can't wait to be back in the saddle again.

Damn dude!  Again?  That's serious.

Do what your doc says, get better and hang around a while longer.  Okay?

Tough can take you only so far.  I learned that lesson.

Will do, Popeye. I'm in good hands at the VA. It's amazing what a few pounds off (30 lbs so far), smaller portions, exercise and the love of a good wife can do to make things right.

Luckily for me, I ended up in a VA trauma hospital in West Palm Beach (I was in the Keys). They are equipped to handle stroke protocols and they took good care of me; they treated me like a king - God bless 'em.

I plan on being around a bit longer. Quit smoking 2 tears ago and I won't ever forget to take my meds - again!

Yup.  Sticking to a meds regimen is important.  That's another lesson I've learned.

Welcome back!  Maybe our paths will cross during Ohio dove season.

Dayum, son! You can't be falling down on the job! Wuddheckiziz? If you don't take care of youself and watch your stuff, you won't be shooting any more. (We can't have that, can we)?

Watch your stuff, okay?

Yep, I have to take stuff twice a day for the rest of my life after a transplant, if I forget I'm in deep sh** I didn't have to do it to get it, while I was in the hospital, this other guy was there for "another" transplant because he thought he didn't need the meds loll. Forgetting is one thing, but being plain stupid is a whole other ball game.

This one is for all of us who had close calls. Stay strong!

Thanks for all the well-wishes over the last few months. Had a minor hiccup on the recovery road this past week - internal bleeding of the stomach and intestines. Colonoscopy, endoscopy still no joy. I'm going to have to swallow a tiny camera some time this week to see what it looks like from the inside - wish me luck. Technology is spooky stuff!

Good luck with the camera.  I've been there it wasn't bad at all the drugs they give you put you almost to sleep.  I learned that doctors don't have much of sense of humor.  I asked the doctor to make sure he used the right camera on each end.  :-\ He didn't like my sense of humor.

Good luck on the camera procedure. I had one go check out my bladder a few years back. At least yours is going it a bigger hole.

Glad you are better and following the dr orders. The VA has also been good to me. I truly do not look forward to the testing.but I am glad I can do them to stay well.
