Buck has a new automatic knife for sale!
« on: July 25, 2015, 07:12:30 PM »

It's called the 898 Impact. The knife has an S30V steel drop-point blade and seems very well made. Knife Center has them for sale at $139.00. At this price point, this knife will wind up being well worth the money.

Since automatc knives are legal for possession in 25 states, and carry is also legal in a number of them, Buck, Cololnial, Kershaw, Gerber, SOG and others are slowly gearing up for the eventual reintroduction of automatic knives into civilian hands. (They never should have been banned in 1958).

i pull up there and have to drop the sig, LCR, 25 auto, knife, magazines, pepper, taser, multi tool, cell phone, snuff.......think i missed getting the swiss back so its my fault.

i carry too much crap........think i just might get a big folder and put it on the sam browne.

This is a automatic knife, and Buck's first factory built auto.  (While I have a converted Buck 110, this knife is a well built automatic knife).

I really like it.

We all know the Switchblade Control Act of 1958 was a political move to infringe the right to keep and bear arms in the guise of "crime control" that accomplished nothing.

Colonial, Gerber, Kershaw, SOG, Benchmade and others ar all making inroads into the market. Buck is just "jumping" into the scene. There are a lot of great auto knives on the market.

It is our responsibility to respond to the quality auto knife market and use them well! 8)

I ordered the Buck Impact 898 yesterday afternoon. (at $134.99 from Blade HQ). After reading the two reviews from other people that purchased their first automatic, I decided that "the water was fine" so I dove in! Here's a link to the Impact :

The steel was the best Buck could select for the money, and the construction seems excellent. The 3 125" blade is just big enough to get most jobs done and the weight is light enough for daily carry.

When mine comes in, I'll tell you what I think.

S30V is fine knife blade steel.  In an everyday use knife I prefer it to D2 steel.  Its much easier to resharpen.

My new Queen is in need of having an edge put on it, but I doubt it if would lose it anytime soon. I think that I'll rotate between my Kershaw, Queen and the Buck Impact (upon it's arrival). I'm ceratinly glad that Buck decided to make the most of their venture into the world of automatic knives.

Good stuff, Maynard!

For many years, people have been converting Buck 110 to an automatic knife, (yes, I own one).

This is the knife I have been waiting for! The S30V blade is a dream come true, and the plunge lock is excellent. I like the "red-you're-dead" coded safety. The knife opens positively, without pretense. The knife has everything you need, nothing you don't.

This will be an EDC knife for me. Buck couldn't have made a better automatic knife at this price point. I showed mine to the local gun shop and they were duly impressed. When I told them how much I paid, they were even MORE impressed!

Buy one, You'll be a "happy camper".

Yes another one pulled by the idiots everywhere, Tell me the difference between an auto knife and one where you have to flick your wrist to open, once it's open if your intent is bad, you will do your deed no matter what.
