Another "New Burn Vistim" Browning Citori Grade 1 Long Tang
« on: August 19, 2017, 10:08:01 AM »

I just got this one in Thursday evening.  I have been amazed how little damage was done in the fire.  The wood is all smoke darkened and some of the plastic finish bubbled on the tip of the fore end.  The speckling on the steel is not pitted.  I started the sand down Thursday night.

The first cut with the 120 grit  wet and dry paper on the wood; I will take it to 600 grit now that I know the wood was just smoke damaged an not charred.  Damn I got lucky!

This is the trigger tang, and fore end lock.  Both were covered with crud from the fire.  400 grit with Case sharpening oil cleaned them up.  The Oxpho cold blue and then I used Scotch Brite Ultra Fine pads for carding the raw cold blue.  Popeye was right DON'T USE 0000 steel wool on metal gun parts.  Ironically the pads come from the NAPA car parts store store.  I may have to do some more work on the fore end release.  The color is just not right.

Did the polish and cold blue on the receiver.  Sure cleaned up pretty.

Barrels had lots of smoke and rust on the outside, and a small amount of rust in one of the bores just below the choke tube.
